A resource library organized around the work
Awesome CTO brings together articles, free books, public engineering handbooks, courses, workshops, references, and leadership communities. The subjects follow the work of engineering leadership: setting the remit, hiring, supporting people, planning, choosing architecture, operating reliably, protecting systems, using data, and working with the business.
The catalog is the starting point. Browse a subject, choose a practical collection, or look for a particular author or format. Resource titles open the original work. Selection notes explain what a resource can help with and the context worth keeping in mind. Bookmark useful finds to build a reading list in this browser.
From a source link to a useful resource
The initial research inventory covers 249 distinct destinations in the source list. We follow its references into original books, chapters, courses, and working practices, and add relevant primary resources where they give a subject useful depth.
Identify the author, current destination, and actual subject.
Understand what it contributes and who it can help.
Organize by subject, format, and the work it supports.
Link directly, with a clear selection note and practical next step.
A destination being reachable is only a first check. A page that redirects to a company’s homepage may no longer contain the recommended article. A collection can be useful for discovery without every link in it becoming a recommendation here.
Some material is historical. We keep that context visible and distinguish an author’s argument from a rule that every company should follow. A strong opinion can be useful reading without being a universal recommendation.
Moved pages
Where a resource has moved, we look for a current source from the author or project. If only an archived copy remains, we leave the resource out.
The original articles, books, and handbooks belong to their respective authors and publishers. Archive availability does not grant republication rights. Our guides, examples, selection notes, and templates are original editorial material; worked examples illustrate a decision rather than claiming to be company case studies.
Guides for applying what you read
Each subject also has a working guide. It connects the reading to a practical approach, a worked example, a checklist, and a template for the next conversation. Use a guide when you need to move from exploring a subject to making a decision with your team.
Copy or download the templates and adapt them. The guide checklists and saved reading list stay in your browser on this device. They do not create an account or submit your answers.
The source project
This site was inspired by kuchin/awesome-cto, a curated list released under CC0. Awesome CTO is an independent website and is not affiliated with that project or its maintainers.
The source inventory is synchronized automatically; source-listed resources are checked for continued membership. New links do not automatically become reviewed recommendations, and a source-list change does not erase a useful original guide or selection note. Editorial changes to the published catalog remain deliberate.
Design and credits
The cobalt-and-yellow workshop identity and its engineering leader character belong to this site. Interface icons come from Phosphor. Public Sans, Barlow Condensed, and Caveat provide the typography. Book-cover thumbnails come from the original publishers and remain their property. Author and publisher names identify the original works and do not imply endorsement.
